Join us for another outing of our new hiking and discovery group — this time exploring the peaceful and historic grounds of Fontilles. Team Tossal walks are created for the casual hiker: easy-paced, full of nature and history, with plenty of time to enjoy good company along the way. And of course, we’ll finish with a relaxed get-together at the end.
Highlights of the Route:
🏥 Fontilles Sanatorium – Founded in 1909 as a leprosy colony, Fontilles is today a place of quiet reflection. Its historic hospital buildings, cloisters, and gardens carry stories of resilience and community, set against a beautiful mountain backdrop.
⛪ San Francisco Javier Church – A graceful church within the colony, its architecture and atmosphere offer a glimpse into the spiritual heart of Fontilles.
🌿 Forest Trails – We’ll follow gentle paths through pine woods and Mediterranean greenery, with birdsong and fresh air all around us.
🏔️ Views of the Vall de Laguar – From the higher points of the walk, sweeping vistas open up across valleys and mountains, a perfect reminder of the area’s natural beauty.
🪨 Ruins and Old Terraces – Scattered remains of stone houses and agricultural terraces reveal how people once lived and worked the land here.
✨ Expect a relaxed pace, fascinating stories, and the perfect blend of history, nature, and good conversation.
